November and Change

November is here, and with it the chance for citizens of the United States of America to vote.
Each year when I purchase my new planner I look for quotes to add to the top of each new month. The two that I really liked this year and added to the top of the November page in my planner are these:"Those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber." Plato, and "Bad politicians are sent to Washington by good people who don't vote." William Simon former Treasury Secretary
I have made it a point to listen, read, ponder and pray about the issues both locally and nationally this year. My eyes have been opened like never before. In my opinion, we have been to the top of the mountain, and instead of basking in the bright sunshine of hope, we are on a slippery slope heading back into the darkness as we enter this election.
I listen as the politicians boast of bringing change. Yet it seems that many are failing to realize that change is only good if it is for the better. Change for the sake of change can be very dangerous.
As I raised my children, I often told them they could find anything for or against, any subject they wanted to. Now, there is even more information for the world to process than there was before. So how, in this overload of information is one able to find out what is true and what is good and what is right.
We must be willing to take the time to not only listen, read and gather all the information around us, but we also must be willing to look back at the records of those who are promising great changes. Does their record stand for the 'change' that would be best for our country. And more importantly we must be willing to look beyond the issues of 'wowing' the crowds with rhetoric to finding the values, strengths and integrity of character that our nation once stood for.
We must be careful not to be lulled into security by those who would deny us rights guaranteed by the Constitution. We must be careful not to think that change for the sake of change is good. We must not be fooled by clever the rhetoric of the so called, politically correct.
Our nation was founded on great sacrifice and service. Those sacrifices, from long ago and not so long ago by the bold and brave must be suppoted by a national government that is willing to do what it takes to keep our country free.
Vote this November 4. Vote for our country, to make it a better place. Vote because of all those those who fought and died for our country. Vote for those who live in countries who do not have the opportunity to vote in freedom like we do. Vote for change to a nation that supports its armed forces. Vote for a change to not allowing the killing of unborn children. Vote for the sanctity of marriage. Vote for the rights of parents. Vote for the freedoms granted in the Constitution.

OCTOBER 2008
An election is right around the corner. In this perilous time of change we are living in, there are so many important things to turn our attention to. The worlds economy has fallen into deep trouble within just the last 2 or 3 weeks, wars and rumors of war are still raging across the world. Children, women, and those weaker than others are being exploited and abused. There is hurt and harmful things happening all around us that could turn our own hearts to fear. Yet there is always hope to turn our hearts from fear to faith.
There are those who say there is no hope, yet Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, taught that He is the light and hope of the world. In this time of question and instabililty we can still find peace in His Gospel of truth. But in His peace, we must also stand as witnessess of His teachings, in this world that would have us believe that morals and standing against unrighteous behavior is being intolerant.
I stand for the rights of every person to live life and worship God in the way they see fit. I stand for the basic principles of freedom established by the Founding Fathers of this United States of America. I stand for the unborn child. I stand for the definition of marriage as the uniting of one man and one woman. I stand against being 'politically correct' as it seeks to errode the moral compass and values of righteousness. I fight vigorously against the spreading of pornography, of boy man love and all like evils. I stand by those who are being abused, and live to fight against, strangers,'family', or 'friends', who choose to abuse.
If in this time of uncertainty, we can unite and stand up to the world against onslaughts to the principles of righteousness, we will feel the Savior's ever -encircling arms of love about us and all things will fall into place as God would have them, for the eternal happiness of all of His earthly children.

Fall Is Here

September is here and with it my mind is going over this cycle we call the seasons. Once again we have come through, the rebirth of spring and it's, 'Hey, I'm here, notice me!' blooming days, through the hot, 'give me everything you've got' days of summer, to the slowing down, 'I'm showing my age' days of fall.

With the coming of fall this year, more than in years past, I find myself searching for changes in me. Maybe it's because on the surface I don't notice a lot of changes in myself. Oh yes, there are the 'big' changes; children growing up and leaving home, my weight and my wrinkles, my parents 3 brothers and one of my sons leaving this mortal existence, a new house, a new job etc.
But the 'little' changes, (that really are, 'BIG' changes) aren't as easy to spot as the growing colors that will splash across our beautiful Wasatch Mountains in the coming days!

With the 'I'm slowing down and showing my age' days of fall, I find myself trying to slow down and look inside, to see if I can find any of those 'little' 'BIG' changes in myself. I am finding that slowing down to relflect on the me, that is right now in this 'fall' stage of life, has been a refreshing breath of spring so to say.

I was sexually molested as a child, like so many others. What difines me now is that I listen to deeper communication than just words. I will forever be an advocate of children's freedom from exploitation of any kind. I, like many many others, was once in an abusive relationship. What now defines me is that I am strong. I can now make choices out of facts, not fear. I had a child die in infancy, as many others have. What now difines me is that I have empathy. I can listen and share, with a knowlege that my pain isn't the same as yours, but I can have complete and total empathy and grief for you and your pain. I, like so many others have experienced cancer. What defines me now is that I have learned to listen to my body and rejoice not only in the medicines of our times, but I rejoice in being alive and healthy and learning each day, ways to become healthier. I have a progressive disease, one of the many that people in every walk of life are diagnosed with daily. What now difines me is that I have a chance to make this world a better place as long as I can, and I seize each moment to live life.

As we travel along this road of life we all experience pitfalls and backslides. Somehow in our 'dailyness', we can easily difine ourselves by those, and other negative experiences because they are usually more graphic, emotional and noticeable than other experiences in our lives. But when I looked beyond those experiences, I found the 'BIG' changes in my heart. At this season of fall and change and slowing down I realized that....... I like the me that I am becoming.
